Call Our 24-hour Emergency Line
When you call Atlantis Dental for an emergency dental appointment, we will do our best to get you seen right away. While you’re waiting for your appointment, there are a few things you can do at home to relieve the pain or discomfort you’re experiencing.
For most dental emergencies, you can try over-the-counter pain medicine if you follow the directions on the packaging. Ice packs and cold compresses are also simple and effective solutions for pain and swelling. Finally, a warm saltwater rinse can help relieve pain and remove debris from your mouth. Mix ½ tsp of salt in 8 oz of warm, clean water. Swish it around your mouth and spit it out. You can repeat a saltwater rinse as often as needed until you see our emergency dentist.
If you are experiencing one of the dental emergencies listed below, call our office at
(508) 270-5050 to schedule an emergency appointment and follow the first-aid tips given.
If your adult tooth gets knocked out, there is still a chance we can save it if you act fast. When you find the tooth, pick it up by the crown (not the roots!) and rinse it with a gentle flow of clean water. Place the tooth back in its socket if you can. If you can’t get it to go in, or if it is broken, put your tooth in a small cup of milk and bring it to our office for your emergency appointment.
Rinse your mouth with warm, not hot, clean water. If you’re bleeding, hold a piece of gauze bandage to the wound until it clots which should be about ten minutes or less. Use an ice pack or cold compress to reduce swelling and pain where the injury occurred. And if you can find the piece of your tooth that broke off, bring it with you to our office for your emergency appointment.
Thoroughly rinse your mouth out with warm, not hot, clean water. You may want to try using a saltwater solution (½ tsp salt in 8 oz water) to relieve the pain and clear out any food particles from between your teeth. You can also try to gently floss around the affected tooth to see if stuck food is causing your pain.
You need to see our emergency dentist as soon as possible if you have an oral abscess. In the meantime, you can try rinsing with a saltwater solution of ½ tsp of salt in 8 oz of water to relieve the pain and remove any debris or pus.
